Lions førerhundskole og mobilitetssenter  is the country's oldest, and was founded in 1966 by the Lions Club Oslo Slemdal and Lions Club Eiksmarka. The school trainer and delivers about 12 dogs each year, and thus covers a third of the country's need for guide dogs. Lions førerhundskole is run as a foundation, and receives public funding for each trained dog. Unfortunately this does not give the blind a full training program. Therefore, Lions Clubs all across the country are collecting money for the benefit of the guide school.

Our main objective is to achieve equal opportunities and status in society for people with visual impairment - and other groups of disabled people.

Norwegian Blind Association runs his own guide dog school. Every year, up to 70 puppies enter the world at the school. When they are half a year old it is  time to find out if the dogs are suited to be guide dogs.

To be a good guide dogs they must be willing to learn, be robust, sociable and have a good memory. Dogs who pass the first test are ready to perform a bone hard training program. Among other things, tteach the dog up to believe they are 2 meters high and 2 meters wide while the harness is on. This ensures that the visually impaired can safely pass through obstacles and avoid dangerous situations. Having been through an extensive training program, the dogs are ready to embark on their future as guide dogs.
